As the hard water season begins, it’s not too early to start thinking about summer fishing trips. While we love spending days (and nights) on a frozen lake, we can’t wait for the ice to melt up north so we can open camp and begin life at our Saskatchewan fly-in retreat.
In the meantime, we have a new season of Tazin TV to help us through the winter months. Two new episodes are available now on our YouTube channel or by visiting the “Videos” page on our website.
The first episode is the first night for Bret and Dan Amundson in camp. They’re the duo behind the Tazin TV series. While Trevor, Barry and the rest of the crew are featured regularly, they’re the ones carrying the cameras and doing the editing behind the scenes so that you can see what life is like at our lodge.
Typically your first night is just a relaxing evening taking in the sights after flying in from Fort McMurray, but when it comes to filming, the schedule is wide open. They have a short window to capture footage so when the opportunity strikes, they take advantage of it.
The first night’s calm conditions turned a short jigging trip behind the lodge into a full-on trophy excursion, culminating with multiple big fish coming in the boat.
Episode 2 starts off with a jig bite once again before turning into a new personal best experience for Dan. The lake trout jigging can be a lot of fun for anglers who spend time in walleye country. Bret and Dan hail from Minnesota where you’re born with a walleye rod in your hand.
After a few hearty battles with “action” trout, they decided to head out for pike. This was Dan’s third time coming up and he’s yet to break the 40″ mark for pike. To be fair, he hasn’t really fished for them. He’s filmed a few but usually they’re trout fishing so his chances to set a new PB have been few and far between.
